Pacific University announces its 2008 Alumni Awards

This year Pacific University honors nine alumni for their achievements since graduation. The three categories of awards are Outstanding Alumni Achievement, Outstanding Alumni Service Awards, and Young Alumni Achievement Awards.
The four recipients for the Outstanding Alumni Achievement awards are Brad Bafaro, Alfred Furie, Dr. Howard Horner, and Dr. Gregg Lambert.
Bafaro has worked in the Forest Grove School District for more than 20 years. His speciality is in special education. He earned both his undergraduate and masters from Pacific university.
Furie received his doctor of optometry from Pacific. He ran a private practice while continuing to teach at Pacific.
Horner is an educator and veteran, having served in the United States Army for five years. He became the superintendent of David Douglas School District in 1968.
Lambert is a professor of English at Syracuse University in New York. He earned his doctorate in Comparative Literature from U.C. Irvine. He graduated from Pacific in 1983.
The two recipients of the Alumni Service Awards are Retired Colonel Daniel W. Jacobowitz and Roberta Nickels.
Jacobwitz has served in the U.S. State Department and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He is the primary author of the Tactics Volume of the USAF Gulf war air Power Survey.
Nickels helped run Pacific' Upward bound program. She retired in 2007 as Pacific closed its upward bound program.
The young alumni being honored are Gina Bell, Ty Kovatch, and Melissa Timm.
Bell served in the Peace Corps and works wit Adelante Mueres. She is the manager of the Forest Grove farmer's market.
Kovatch is Randy Leonard's Chief-of-Staff. He manages office operations. He also served as the Leonard's Legislative Assistant in the Oregon House of Representatives.
Melissa Tim has taught in Forest Grove for 10 years. She organized the districts "Touch the Future" program.
