Letters to the Editor

This is because halls that were meant to nourish the harsh transition to college were so full that common rooms, which were never meant as living spaces, have become homes.

I remember as a prospective student being told Pacific didn't care about money, that parking was free, and tuition would be made manageable for everyone. That no matter what our financial troubles were no student would be left behind.

I now see students unable to pay parking tickets that our university has mechanically handed out because their tuition has been raised while their financial aid has not. I see juniors who can't get into tiny, but highly competitive, classes, which are needed to graduate on time.

Phil Creighton has a plan to make Pacific a great "western Ivy League" university. But is increasing revenue from students while cutting student related costs for the greater good?

I feel sorry for the students that will never know the university that I've cherished so much. With classes being three times the size, the aspiring biology students will never know the intimate relationship with their teachers that I have known.

Pacific is no longer a great university, but rather a great business, and as a result it has lost a little bit of its heart along the way.

I couldn't agree more with these two letters about Pacific losing its personal feel. In the last four years of my studies here, I have seen Pacific make a fairly fast transition from a very welcoming academic community to a money-hungry business that throws up new facilities left and right without stopping to consider the implications of such aggressive expansion.
