This week in Pacific history Luau was being performed in its 39th year, with an alum having to travel to the mainland to perform the fire dance. The Luau began as a way, "to share the culture and to share the spirit of aloha," said Edna Gehring in the Index in 1999, and this tradition continues today as Luau performs for its 48th year on Saturday.
