A side project of Pixies bassist Kim Deal, indie rock band The Breeders have come together for their fourth album, Mountain Battles. Incidentally, much like a struggle to climb a mountain, the album can be difficult to follow through to the end, and can leave one feeling depleted at the comedown.
This week in Pacific history Luau was being performed in its 39th year, with an alum having to travel to the mainland to perform the fire dance. The Luau began as a way, "to share the culture and to share the spirit of aloha," said Edna Gehring in the Index in 1999, and this tradition continues today as Luau performs for its 48th year on Saturday.
"Winner, winner, chicken dinner!" Legend says that years ago every casino in Las Vegas sold a three-piece chicken dinner for a measly $1.79; and with a standard blackjack bet being only two bucks, a winning bet was enough to purchase the cheap meal, hence the phrase.
