Letter to the Editor
Issue date: 3/14/08 Section: Opinion
I recently read the article "What Black History Month?" and I found it to be one of the most inaccurate and hypocritical articles in our school's newspaper. I was disappointed that you stated that the Cakewalk was "downright unappreciative."
Since I organized that event for the last two years, it was most upsetting that The Pacific Index would criticize an event celebrating black history month.
I also found the statement unjust since I am certain that no one from the staff was present at the event, not to mention that they have done nothing to raise awareness of black history month prior to this article.
Furthermore, you also failed to recognize the social work's club showing of "4 Little Girls" in celebration of Black History Month. I do agree that Pacific should have a more active role in celebrating black history, but I think our newspaper should be more active in their research before publishing such inaccuracy in their articles.
