Pacific Band Beat

This is the place to find everything that's going on with our on-campus bands - all your favorite student musicians and musical groups - and see their upcoming gigs. If you are an on-campus musician or band drop us a line and tell us what's new with you and we'll do our best to get some students at your next gig.

That said, there are some things to say about our school symphonic band, as well as other local artists around town.



Friday Feb. 29 - The Pacific University Music Department will present a joint concert by the Chamber Singers and the Symphonic Band. The Pacific University Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Scott Tuomi will open the show and the Symphonic Band, conducted by Dr. Michael Burch-Pesses will follow.

General admission is $7, and $5 for Pacific students, faculty, and staff. Tickets may be obtained at the door or by calling the box office at 503-352-2981.



Friday Feb. 29 - Joe McMurrian Quartet performs at 8 p.m. in the Walters Cultural Center, 527 E. Main St., Hillsboro. Tickets are $12 advance, $14 day of show. Tickets are available by calling 503-615-3485



Saturday, March 1 - Hilhi Jazz Night with Pere Petersen and the Porkpie Septet 8 p.m. in the Walters Cultural Center, 527 E. Main St., Hillsboro. Tickets are $10 for students, $20 for the concert and $30 for concert and wine. Call 503-628-2033 for tickets.



Sunday, March 2 - Bluegrass open jam. Bring banjoes, mandolins, fiddles, guitars, etc. to the monthly bluegrass jam, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Tillamook Forest Center, Highway 6 near milepost 22.The event is open to all ages and abilities. Call 503-816-6808 for more information.



Wednesday March 5, Tom Rush performs at 8 p.m. in the Walters Cultural Center, 527 E. Main St., Hillsboro. Tickets are $25 in advance, $27 the day of the show. Tickets are available by calling 503-615-3485.
