Pacific University's Athletic Department and Dining Services have teamed up to create a newer, more appealing and more profitable concession stand at every Pacific home game.
According to Greg Gadbois, assistant director of dining operations, the Athletic Department approached Dining Services with the offer to renovate, run and maintain not only the current snack stand found inside the PAC, but the two stands found in the new athletic complex. One at the soccer/lacrosse field, and one at the baseball/softball field.
Pacific University Dining Services has been fully operating game time concessions since Jan. 1.
As a result of this change in management, students are now able to use their Boxer Card to purchase food at all athletic events, using their declining balance at any of the three locations.
A larger variety of items available for purchase was among the top priorities on a list of what to add or change within the stand(s).
Students will be able to find pastries and other bakery items during morning games, as well as soft pretzels throughout the day, and an increased selection of beverage options, including Portland Roast coffee.
Dining Services also intends to install a special oven for fresh pizza slices during game times as well, hopefully by the end of the month. Ice cream and smoothies are other possible additions to the menu.
According to Gadbois, the athletic department was most likely looking for "a more professional touch to their catering," when first they approached Dining Services.
"We are able to offer the newest and best trends in concession," Gadbois said.
And not to worry: hotdogs, popcorn and nachos will continue to be a staple at all games.
