Hillsboro Campus to Expand

City approval leads to new additions of Hillsboro campus

Pacific is growing by the day. The recently completed Hillsboro campus, home to Pacific's health professions, is in the works to receive a second building as well as parking garage sometime in the near future. But what seemed like an easy idea became harder when Hillsboro residents who live near the campus filed an appeal to the land use Board of Appeals to stop them from building the structures.

School of Professional Psychology students not pleased on how alleged cheating was handled

During the winter break, students from the Psychopathology class at the School of Professional Psychology were notified that their fall semester grades would be posted late because of allegations of cheating on the final exam. Returning for spring semester, the students were given a second exam to replace their final, which was much shorter than the first.

Smith clarifies school policy on plagiarism

When Victor Kane, professor of marketing, was placed on administrative leave for allegedly violating the university's plagiarism policy, everyone was reminded how serious Pacific University treats academic dishonesty. Although Kane's departure was the most prominent occurrence, it was not an isolated incident.

Pacific hosts Focus the Nation events

The Focus the Nation events, hosted on campus Jan. 29-31, came and went quickly but left more than 300 attendees with some serious issues to contemplate. The difference those three days of environmental and global warming awareness will make on campus, in Forest Grove and across the nation is yet to be determined.

Aramark takes over sports concessions

Pacific University's Athletic Department and Dining Services have teamed up to create a newer, more appealing and more profitable concession stand at every Pacific home game. According to Greg Gadbois, assistant director of dining operations, the Athletic Department approached Dining Services with the offer to renovate, run and maintain not only the current snack stand found inside the PAC, but the two stands found in the new athletic complex.

New campus mailroom opens

What once was housed in three separate buildings across Pacific, the university mail center has moved into its new official headquarters in the downstairs of the University Center. "[In the old mailroom we] Didn't have adequate space to serve the students," said Donna Hepler, supervisor of mail services.

U.S. Senate candidate discusses issues

"I think today's political system is badly broken." Those were the words of John Frohnmayer as he opened the the Pacific University Senate Town Hall series Feb. 12 at the Milky Way, sponsored by the Pacific University Undergraduate Council. Frohnmayer, vying for incumbent Senator Gordon Smith's seat as an independent, covered a multitude of issues while describing his platform during the first half of the event, and the audience fired questions at him for the final half.

Faculty, staff join Boot Camp program

In an attempt to improve general health all around campus, Pacific University's Wellness Committee, along with the Exercise Science department, organized the Staff Boot Camp. There won't be any 4 a.m. wake-up calls or fiery drill sergeants in this program.

Students Abroad for Winter III

Every Winter III, students travel across the world to participate in various study abroad programs at Pacific University. Ranging in courses from Theatre to Biology, students live in a foreign county and experience a slice of life very seldom achieve. But when the students weren't in class they went sight-seeing and experienced the wonders of the world.
