Although many of the details of this year's upcoming Tom McCall Forum are yet to be determined, it appears as though the event is on its way to a successful 2010 showing. According to Politics and Law Forum (PLF) Club President Jennifer Conner, "There's positive prospects that [this year's Forum] will likely happen.
Many clinics, doctors' offices and other medical treatment locations have experienced a short supply of the H1N1 vaccine this fall, and Pacific is no exception. Earlier this fall, Student Health Center Director Kathryn Eisenbarth said the center expected to receive a shipment of the H1N1 vaccine by early November.
Two weeks on the job and Director of Media Relations, Joe Lang, is jumping right into his new position at Pacific. Lang recently joined the university and said he already feels at home. The University of Oregon alum said he is finding the transition to be a smooth one and he is eager to work with the university community.
A month after suffering a near-fatal heart attack, Professor Mike Steele is well on his way to making a full recovery. The distinguished professor, who also coaches the Pacific handball team, is already back at work in the English department mindful of what he has endured Steele always maintained a healthy lifestyle and he was in the low-risk category for a heart attack.
Winter III classes are in the process of changing from three to two credits to coincide with this year's switch to a four-credit system. This change is anticipated for the 2011 January term. In the past, Winter III classes were offered with three credits; three hours of class a day, five days a week to equal one semester's worth of class time.
Dr. Kwame Dawes, a faculty member in the MFA Creative Writing Program has good reason to celebrate. Dawes recently won an Emmy Award in News and Documentary for his work on a multimedia website project, LiveHopeLove.com. The project, which examines HIV/AIDS in Jamaica is based on Dawes's Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting work, HOPE: Living with AIDS in Jamaica, which has also received several awards and honors.
